Awesome! I'm hoping to make it into a full song one day.
I gave your song a listen and I'm really impressed, so I gave it a 5.
nice
great job in the studio, whoever mixed it. the dubs are perfect. keep it up!
Thanks. The guy who mixed it for us goes by the name of Danny. We recorded this at his studio in Montebello, Calfiornia.
hmm....
im guessing you use EVO... why didn't you dub or highlight this at all? the vocals are lacking depth and fullness. either throw some carefully placed delay, ad libs, chops, or something to fill the silence a little bit. using delay to highlight would probably be your best bet. it also sounds like the gain on the mic is a tad bit high. the level of the vocals is also VERY high, especially in a song like this where the beat carries lots of the emotion, the beat shouldnt be background noise, it should be just as audible as the vocals, no more, no less. this is most apparent with the last line in the song where you hit the high note and the vocals just overpower the beat. a little EQ would help the vocals too, drop out the low end a little and boost either 500Hz, 1kHz or 2kHz about 3dB. the reverb is good, autotune+reverb=awesome. nice beat, and your lyrics are real too. i see you have a good foundation but u need to take the time and say "ok i like what i have, but what else needs to be done before this is album-quality?" its the little subtle things in a song that are added during premix and mixdown that catch the ear and carry the message of the song that much further. good job, im genuinely impressed to see people with this kind of talent just chillin on newgrounds. keep it up!! 10/10
this is one of my first recordings lol so I was new to this, but I'm actually MUCH better at mixing now lol. But thanks, your advice is awesome, and I appreciate the love =] lol
music like this makes money
again, u got pro talent. the highlight dubs need to be ALOT lower. u dont rly even want to hear that you highlighted, its supposed to be more of a feeling. take it down 5-6dB from wherever the main vocals are and add moderate reverb. i love the flange on the beat's vocals, good choice. the more of an ear you develop for mixing on your own time will save you lots of money and if you give it to an audio engineer they can spend more time on spice and less on leveling and compression and all that jazz. if you dont have pro audio software like logic cubase or pro tools then use a simple editor like audacity. its not childsplay but ive had good results with it.. its what i learned on at least. also, i notice you dont use ad libs ("hey"s "what"s and "yeah"s in the background).. is that a prefrence? its not a deal breaker, but it can add some depth. sorry for writing so much but i rip my own music apart until it sounds decent... and then im still not happy with it lol. dont get me wrong its still a 10/10 but there are things that u need to mindful of if you want this to hit the radio.
thanks, yeah i really dont like adlibs too much it gets in the way of what im trying to say. right now this is the really unmixed version, but im liking the work i get done at the current studio got a pretty good bond with the cat. and he dont smoke so we actually get shyt done. i have worked with cubase before and i like the quality it brought out but that studio didnt have a compressor so you really didnt get the whole effect out of it.. i feel you on the critique'n shyt im my biggest critic
time is long however its just not changin...
u have talent. i like the energy in the song. i would say it needs to be mixed but judging by the response to the other comment it looks like u kno that lol. good job 414. im lookin foward to the mixed version!
thanks fam
masterly.
i wonder what it would sound like if you sped the tempo up a tad? its a very melancholy song... i like that you drew inspiration from color guard and turned it into music, but color guard is so lively! maybe a faster tempo will bring some playfulness into the mix. but hey, thats just me... its still a perfect 10 in my opinion. you picked the right key for it too.
well done!
i love this. it needs to be mixed a little better, the vocals could be a tad bit clearer without sacrificing their ambience, try taking a little reverb off of them or add another vocal track dry without effect and mix the levels. the chimes are awesome, but a little overpowering at the volume you have them. i like the brightness of the song. great job! this song has potential, do it justice!
4/5 9/10
